There is a problem subtracting out tax-exempt pension on the Massachusetts returns. Typically we go to Income Subject to Tax, then Exempt Pensions and Annuities and enter the amount to exclude as a negative number, for example -15000. At the current time, you cannot enter a negative number — THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED.
To work around this, go to the box where enter the amount to exclude, type in the first two digits, then back arrow to the beginning of the line, type in the -, then correct the number to whatever it should be.
There are probably other workarounds, but we’re just trying to identify a way to continue working until the problem is fixed.
